Definition of psychology
the systematic, scientific study of behaviors and mental processes
What are behaviors?
Anything that an organism does which can be observed and recorded. These include yelling,
smiling, sweating, ect.
What are mental processes?
The internal, subjective experiences we infer from behavior. these include perceptions,
dreams, thoughts, amdm beliefs.
What are the goal of psychology?
The goal of psychology is to explain why people feel, act, and think the way they do.
What is Structuralism?
The approach to psychology devoted to uncovering the basic structures of the mind relying on
introspection (looking in conscious mind).
what is Functionalism
An approach to Psychology focusing on how the mental and behavioral processes help organisms
adapt and survive.
What is Gestalt?
An approach to Psychology looking at the "big picture" instead of different parts
seperately.
Behaviorism
An approach to Pscychology where study surrounds observing events; stimuli from envornment
and reaction from an organism.
How were Socrates and plato's beleifs on Psychology different from Aristole's
socrates and Plato believed that knowledge was inate. Aristotle believed that knowledge was
gained over time.
