hamartia
a tragic hero’s fatal flaw; an ingrained character trait that causes the hero to make decisions leading to death or downfall
dramatic irony
occurs when the reader or audience knows more about the circumstances or future events in a story than the characters within it
justice
the quality of being reasonable and fair in the administration of the law; the ideal of rightness or fairness
chorus
in traditional or classic drama---a group of performers who speak as one and comment on the action of the play
documentary film
a work of nonfiction that provides a visual record of actual events using photographs, video footage, and interviews
objectivity
the representation of facts or ideas without injecting personal feelings or biases
subjectivity
based on one’s personal point of view, opinion, or values
narration
the act of telling a story
diegetic sound
the actual noises associated with the shooting of a scene, such as voices and background sound
non-diegetic sound
refers to voice-overs and commentary, sounds that do not come from the action on screen

the use of factual evidence and thought to appeal to an audience’s sense of reason
ethical appeal

an interesting quotation, ancdote, or example that grabs readers' attention

is the main idea or argument
allusion
a reference to a well-known person, event, or place from literature, history, music or art.
