Study this deck
meiosis
the cell division process of the gamete (sex cell) for reproduction
mitosis
the cell division process used to grow and maintain body cells
first stage of mitosis
division of the nucleus
second stage of mitosis
division of the cytoplasm
overall process of mitosis
equal distribution of DNA to two daughter, or identical, cells' nuclei while the cytoplasm for each nucleus is separate with a new membrane
This occurs at different rates for different types of cells.
cell division
the five phases of mitosis
interphase (resting phase), prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase
interphase (resting phase) of mitosis
the phase where the cell's activities are for homeostasis (a balanced environment for survival)
prophase of mitosis
the centrioles move apart to opposite sides of the cell; cytoplasmic microtubules form; the nuclear membrane begins to dissolve
metaphase
the nuclear membrane is totally dissolved; chromatid pairs arrange in a single file formation
anaphase
the two chromatids of each replicated chromosome are now separated; the chromatid pairs separate and are pulled toward the centrioles
telophase
chromosomes migrate to the opposite poles; the chromosomes uncoil and become loosely arranged; the nuclear membrane and nucleolus reappear
