P.E UNIT 3 - ACUTE RESPONSES TO EXERCISE

36 cards·by tashryan26
Study this deck
name the three types of acute responses to exercise.
respiratory, cardiovascular, muscular
what are 4 acute respiratory responses?
ventilation, respiratory rate, tidal volume, diffusion
what are 3 acute cardiovasular responses?
heart rate, increase a-vo2 difference, cardiac output
what are 3 acute muscular responses?
increase motor unit recruitment, blood flow to working muscles, body temp
what is the difference between vasoconstriction and vasodilation?
vasoconstriction is when there is a decrease in the diameter on the blood vessels. Vasodilation is when the blood flow increases.
the ATP-PC system uses which twitch fibres?
fast
what are the 3 factors of the venous return?
muscle pump, respiratory pump, venoconstiction
what is the venous return?
the amount of blood returning back to the heart.
is the venous return a measurement?
no
during exercise does the venous return increase or decrease? why?
increase, because the respiratory rate increases
what is the role of the muscle pump?
increase the blood return back to the heart
what is the role of the respiratory rate?
increase in oxygen which increases the blood to the muscles
what is venoconstriction?
when the veins reduce in capacity, forcing blood to be pushed towards the heart
what is the a-vo2 difference?
the oxygen concentration between the arteries
does your a-vo2 difference increase or decrease during exercise?
increase
what happens to your muscle temperature during maximal exercise?
blood vessels vasoconstrict due to short duration and high intensity
what happens to your muscle temperature during sub-maximal exercise?
blood vessels dilate, increase of blood flow to ccool the body down slowly
what is vital capacity?
the maximum amount of air you can btreathe out after breathing in
what is V-02 max?
the maximum amour of oxygen that can be taken up, transported and utilised per minute
does you v-02 max decrease or increase during exercise?
increase
what is stroke volume?
the amount of blood ejected by the left ventricle per beat
what is tidal volume?
how much air is inspired or expired in one breathe
what is respiratory rate?
the number of breathes taken in one minute
what is ventilation?
how much air is breathed in or out in one minute
what is the equation for ventilation?
v (L/min) = TV (L) X RR (breaths/min)
what is cardiac output? what is its symbol?
the amount of blood pumped out of the heart in one minute. Q.
what is heart rate?
the number of times the heart beats in one minute
what does 'energy substrates' mean? 2 examples.
fuel sorces. ATP, GLYCOGEN
what do acute response depend on?
type, duration and intensity of an event
what are the changes in blood flow at rest?
increase % of blood to liver and kidneys
what are the changes in blood flow during exercise?
increase % to muscles so they recieve the greatest percentage of cardiac output
explain the process of gas exchange.
blood is taken away in the arteries, the capillaries exchange CO2 and oxygen from blood to muscles, the veins take blood back to heart
explain the role of diffusion.
the process where substances more from high pressure to ares of low pressure
where does diffusion occur?
the aveoli
explain the PROCESS of diffusion of oxygen
the oxygen conc. in the LUNGS is high to low
explain the PROCESS of diffusion of CO2
the CO2 conc. in the BLOOD is high to low
