What does a Streak Test do
This shows the true color of a mineral
What is the Moh's Hardness Scale
Rates minerals on a scale of 1-10 on their ability to scracth another mineral or be scratched
How is the Moh's Hardness Scale Ranked, what does 1 mean
1 is the hardest (talc), 10 is the softest (diamond)
Cleavage
A smooth break in a mineral along a clean surface
Fracture
an uneven jagged break in a mineral
What are some special properties of minerals
Magnetism or phosphoresces (glow in the dark)
Luster
the ability to reflect light­ how shiny a mineral is
Pure Mineral
Mineral made up of only one type of element (example Gold)
Compound Minerals
Minerals made up of more than one type of element
Crystal
arranged in a set order, and a regular, periodically repeated pattern.
