The last few pages of the yearbook, typically where the yearbook staff shares the
finalreinforcing message about the theme of the yearbook.
Closing
An inscription page found at the end of a yearbook listing details that pertain to print
specifications of the book.
Colophon
Text in a book. it can be body copy, caption copy or headline copy.
Copy
Thick cardboard covered with printed or silk-screened materials that protects the pages.
Cover
A single page or double page spread used to separates each section of the yearbook. Most staffs
try to reinforce the theme on the div. pages
Divider
Heavy sheet of paper that attaches the book to the cover. There is an end sheet in both front and
back of the book. printed or left blank
Endsheet
The first few pages of the book, where the yearbook staff typically reinforces the theme
introduced on the cover for the first time.
Opening
Used as a way to organize the yearbook for the staff and the reading audience.
Section
phrases and logos that come from the theme concept and are used for each section of the book.
Spin-offs
Two facing pages in a publication. a spread should take into account what eyes see on the two
facing pages versus single pages, side by side
Spread
A verbal statement and a visual look that bring all parts of the yearbook together.
Theme
Coverage that allows yearbook staffs to tell their students' stories in multiple ways. Can
include surveys, Q , top ten, quizzes and charts
Alternative Coverage
Topics that will be featured on individual spreads as well as how the topics will be
highlighted.
Coverage
The process to produce color pages on an offset press. the four ink colors are Cyan (Blue),
Magenta (Red), yellow and black.
Four-color Process
One side of a signature: the eight pages that are printed on one side of a press sheet.
Flat
A complete alphabetical listing, along with corresponding page numbers, of all students,
teachers and admin. featured in the yearbook.
Index
The overall map that shows the placement of every layout in the yearbook. the more complete and
detailed ladder is, the easier its to do it
Ladder Diagram
Sixteen pages that are printed on both sides of one press sheet on an offset press.
Signature
A binding method where 16 pages are printed on one sheet of paper, then folded and ultimately
sewn together with other signatures.
Smythe sewn binding
One color that is printed on a page, usually a black and white page for emphasis.
