Uniform Crime Report
Data is incomplete
National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS)
includes more information about offenses reported to the police
National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS)
Gathers information about offenses regardless of whether they are reported to the police
Self-report studies
Research based on data that is offered by respondents about themselves, may be bias
Dark figure of crime
The vast number that are not reported and those that are reported but not recorded
