Primary and secondary cause of osteoarthritis

Nodes are red, swollen, tender; Heberden's nodes; Bouchard's nodes

Rheumatoid
Chronic, systemic autoimmune disease; Inflam of CT of synovial joint; Peaks btw age 30-50; Women are affected 2-3x men
Rheumatoid causes
Unknown; AUtoimmune etiology is accepted (Rh Factor); Genetic factors
Rheumatoid Stage 1
Early: No destructive changes on xray, possible evidence of osteoporosis
Rheumatoid Stage 2
Moderate: Xray evidence of osteoporosis w or w/o slight bone or cartilage dam; No joint deform; Adjacent muscle atrophy + node presence
Rheumatoid Stage 3
Severe: Xray evidence of cartilage + bone destruction in addition to osteoporosis; joint deformity; extensive muscle atrophy w nodule presen
Rheumatoid Stage 4
Terminal: Fibrous or bony ankylosis
Gout causes
Increase in uric acid production; Underexcretion of uric acid by kidneys; Increase intake of foods containing purines
Gout: Primary type
Hereditary (overproduction or retention of uric acid); 90% of cases

R/T another acquired disorder; result of drugs that inhibit uric acid excretion (Thiazide diuretics)

Colchicine, NSAIDS, Allopurinol, Febuxostat, ACTH (Adrenocorticotropic hormone Probenecid), Corticosteroids
