Friction
a force that opposes the motion of objects that touch as they move past each other
Static Friction
is the friction force that that acts on the objects that are not moving
Sliding Friction
is a force that opposes the direction of motion of an object as it slides over a surface
Rolling Friction
the change in shape at the point of rolling contact
Fluid Friction
opposed the motion of an object through a fluid
Air resistance
fluid friction acting on an object moving through the air
Terminal velocity
the constant velocity of a falling object when the force of air resistance equals the force of gravity
Projectile Motion
the motion of a falling object after its given an initial forward velocity
Inertia
the tendency of an object to resist change in its motion
Mass
a measure of the inertia of an object that depends on the amount of matter the object contains
Momentum
the product of an objects mass and its velocity
Law of Conversation of Momentum
if no net forces acts on a system, then the total momentum of the system does not change
Electromagnetic Force
associated with the charged particles
Strong Nuclear Force
a powerful force of attraction that acts only on the neutrons and protons in the nucleus, holding them together
Weak Nuclear Force
is an attraction force that acts only over a short range
Gravitational Force
an attraction force that acts between two masses
Centripetal Force
a center-directed force that continuously changes direction of an object to make it move in a circle
