What is the purpose and goal of the Remedial Model?
To restore, habilitate, and rehabilitate group members that are behaving dysfunctionallyor unproductively.
What is the focus of work of the Remedial Model?
Changing individual dysfunction thinking or coping skills, changing behaviour orthinking.
What is the role of the group worker in the Remedial Model?
They are a change agent that engages in study, diagnosis, treatment to help group members attain individual treatment goals.

Pay attention to obvious (don't introduce something thats already happening), Maintain flexibility, and Avoid self-deception
What are some group leadership skills?
Actions, techniques, behaviours, that help group achieve goals. Both workers and members use them.
What are the five basic facilitation skills?
Attending, Inter-member responding, Focusing, Guiding Group Interaction, and Involving Group Members
What are the 3 models of Group Leadership?
1. Social Goals 2.Remedial 3. Reciprocal
Describe the Social Goals model of group leadership.
Help people become socially conscious/responsible, focus on community/larger society, and the leader is a role model responsible citizenship
Describe the Reciprocal model of group leadership.
Form mutual aid system among members, self-help, leader is a mediator between needs of group and members, provides info
What is the difference between formed and natural groups?
Natural groups have a long history, long future, and they are intense

A formed group is one that comes together through outside intervention ex. clubs, counselling, social programs, etc.
What is a natural group? Give an example.
A natural group comes together based on naturally occurring events, sharing needs/values, interpersonal attraction ex. friends, family

What are some of the characteristics of a Social Conversation group?
Develop friends, break isolation, develop social skills, informally. No expectations, situational communication ex.Drop-in centres, day care
What are some characteristics of a Recreational Activity group?
Gain friendships through activity indirectly, build self-esteem, based on shared interest leading to bond, low self-disclosure ex.YMCA
