Anaphora
The repetition of a word or phrase at the beginning of the successive phrases or line
Antithesis
Opposition or contrast of ideas or words in a balanced or parallel structure
Alliteration
Repetition of the same sound beginning several words in sequence
Analogy
a comparison in which an idea or a thing is compared to another thing that is quite different from it. Something similar
Allusion
Brief reference to a Person, event, or place, real or fictitious or to a work of art
Anecdote
A short interesting story or an amusing event
Antimetabole
Turning about repeating a phrase in reverse oreder
Satire
Employ by writers to expose or criticize foolishness and corruption of an individual or society
Syntax
Set of rules in a language. It dictates how words from different parts of a speech are put together in order to convey a complete thought
Scheme
F.O.S. that deals with word order, syntax, letters, and sounds.
Simile
A comparison showing similarities between two different things. Uses like or as
Personification
A thing or idea or an animal is giving human qualities
Persona
Mask of an actor and is linked to the dramatic personae which refers to a list of characters
Parallelism
Used in a sentence that grammatically the same or similar sound, meaning or phrase
Propaganda
spreading ruors, false or correct information or an idea to influence the opinion of the society
Rhetoric
Using language effectively and persuasively inspoken or written form
Rhetorical question
Asked just for effect or to lay emphasis on some point discussed
Epigram
Memorable, brief, interesting and satirical statement
Ethos
Credibility or an ethical appealwhich involves persuasions
Connotation
A meaning that is impled by a word apart from the thing which it describes explicitly
Colloquialism
Use of informal words
Diction
Style of speaking or writing determined by the choice of words by a speaker or writer
Declarative sentence
A statement declarating something
Zeugma
Use of two different words in a grammatically similar way but produce different meaning
Metaphor
F.O.S which makes an implicit or an implied comparison between two things that are unrelated but share common character
Trope
Artful variations from expected modes of expression of thoughts and ideas
Juxtaposition
Placement of two things closely together to emphasize comparison or contrast
Understatement
F.O.Semployed by writers or speakers to intentionally make a situation less important than it really is
Oxymoron
Two opposite ideas ae joined together crate an effect
